Two Villages - One Community

WELCOME TO

BURES COMMUNITY CENTRE

We are  a modern large complex with three meeting rooms, available for individual and group hire.  Bures, situated on the Suffolk Essex border, is approximately five miles South of Sudbury and ten miles north of Colchester.  The village has a railway station connecting to the mainline London to Norwich service, via Marks Tey.  There is a regular bus running from Colchester through Bures to Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds.  There are two public houses, a primary school, a Baptist Church and St Mary's Parish Church.

There is parking available adjacent to the Centre. This parking is organised by the Parish Council and as such is offered on a first come first served basis.  If you have deliveries or need to have your vehicle close to the hall then space may be reserved.

The hall is adjacent to a large recreational area with a football and a cricket field, a tennis court and the river Stour running alongside the two fields with canoe landing facilities.  The hall has an access ramp with two additional toilets for wheelchair users.

The main hall is connected to a smaller room (Garrard room). The two rooms may be booked together or separately.   Behind the main hall there is a self-contained smaller room (Committee room) capable of seating up to fifteen people. (This facility is currently on permanent booking by a local firm using the room as an office.)

The village hall in the past  been  used for important functions such as weddings or anniversaries and can be transformed from a "village Hall" to a rather magnificent but affordable venue with an internal “marquee” lining. ------  see  "Special Functions" for further information.
